BRUCE KICKS OUT THE JAMS IN NEW JERSEY WITH A 2016 MILLION PLUS-DOLLARS-OF- RARE WINE-OPENED BIRTHDAY BLOW OUT

About 50 guests (and 5 Somms) contributed 250 legendary bottles of wine for this record breaking event at Bruce’s home in New Jersey.

Highlights were:  1.  Every bottle of 1996 champagne made, most of them in large formats; 2. Every bottle of soldera made; 3. Jeros of DRC Montrachet (1997 and 1999); 4.  Many large format bottles of DRC Romanee Conti and La Tache (including 52, 57, 62, 66, 69 and 71).  And I am forgetting quite a few.

I brought a bottle of 1978 Roumier Bonnes Mares (one of my wines of the night, along with Dana’s 1978 Rousseau Clos De Beze) and a very rare bottle of 1978 Drouhin Montrachet (one of, if not the best, 1978 Montrachets I have ever had) — I also really liked the 1955 La Mission which David brought, and all of the DRCs from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and of course a great bottle of 1971 La Tache — I also loved the 1958 Gaja Barbaresco which Gaia Gaja brought (her photo is below), also, there were blow away magnums of 1969 and 1971 Dom Rose, one of my favorite champers.

The food included pizza with white truffles, which was incredibly good.

I tried to take photos of as many bottles as I could — but there were approximately 250 bottles and as the night got more and more crazy, I began to concentrate on the wines.

Finally, Eddie gave me a 1974 Davidoff Dom Perignon, one of the best cigars I have ever smoked — and the camera got put away.
